The Battlefield is in your mind: You choose sides by what you think about - Part 2 Created 8 March 2014

Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3 || Part 4

It is accurate, true and relevant to know that, at the very least, the minds of 'Spirit-unregenerated-people' are controlled by the prince of the power of the air - Satan, or his cohort(1). Sometimes Christians have their minds controlled by him too; that is when they allow their carnal nature (and not their renewed spiritual nature) to reign (Rom 7:14-8:5). I've done that. Perhaps you have too?

So, how do we ensure that we no longer are controlled or influenced by "the prince of the power of the air" - Satan? The short answer is two-fold:

1) repent, believe and get born anew(2),
2) be led by the Holy Spirit(3).

But, what if you cannot (yet) hear the Holy Spirit clearly?

Answer: Scripture - the Bible. Be led by the Bible and ask for God's explanation of it in prayer(4).

That's what it means to 'be washed by the water of the word'(5). And, that's what Paul meant when he said to Timothy, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3:15-17)

This is also what Paul meant when he wrote to the church in Rome, do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Rom 12:2)

Doing what is good and acceptable and perfect in the will of God comes through having YOUR MIND RENEWED.

So, here are a few helpful tips for the 'already-regenerated-Christ-follower' to have their minds renewed:

So, what is the point of it all?:

To have your mind renewed.

Footnotes:

1) And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. (Eph 2:1-3) [back]

2) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3) [back]

3) So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. (Rom 8:6-8, NLT) [back]

4) But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true - it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ. (1 John 2:27, NLT) [back]

5) Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. (Eph 5:25-27) [back]

6) You may choose to take Paul's lead in his prayer to the Ephesian church and make it your own:

"I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to ME the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, [that] the eyes of MY understanding being enlightened; that I may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. Thank you Lord. Amen"
